More than two dozen fire departments across West Virginia were awarded money.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Funds to assist with updating operations and safety equipment are on the way for 25 West Virginia fire departments.
Senators Jay Rockefeller and Robert C. Byrd, D-W.Va., made that announcement on Friday. Receiving funding from the Northern Panhandle are:
Benwood Volunteer Fire Department $22,901 City of Weirton Fire Department $132,924 Hooverson Heights Volunteer Fire Department $78,708 McMechen Volunteer Fire Department $17,100 Wheeling Fire Department $247,500
The money comes from the 2009 Assistance to Firefighters Grant program. AFG grants are awarded on a competitive basis in order to help communities across America enhance and protect the health and safety to the public.
