WHEELING -- A dramatic tractor-trailer rollover in Ohio County Nov. 16 has resulted in traffic charges for the truck driver.
William Lippert, 45, of Salesville, Ohio, was charged with driving left of center and failure to maintain control after the Ohio County Sheriff's Department completed its investigation.
The crash occurred on Short Creek Road, just past the intersection of G C & P Road.
Two men in a Volkswagen driving south found themselves pinned in the car, beneath an overturned tractor-trailer dump truck.
"Evidence left at the scene indicates that the driver of the semi tractor-trailer went into a curve, coming out of the curve he was left of center. tried to steer the vehicle back into its correct lane of travel and the tractor trailer started to flip over," said Lt. Kevin Goode, of the Ohio County Sheriff's Department.
Goode said it was definitely speed-related.
The truck was hauling a waste product known as "fluff," which comes from junked cars, and was on its way to the landfill.
The driver of the Volkswagen is still in intensive care in an area hospital, recovering from a compression fracture of the spine, according to a family member.
The passenger in that car has reportedly been treated and released.
The truck driver is reportedly still being treated for a neck injury.
