MORRISTOWN, Ohio -- The accident came in the middle of an already exhausting week in which Ohio Department of Transportation workers have been plowing snow around the clock.

At 7:30 a.m., Wednesday, a man smashed his car into the back of a working snowplow near the Barnesville exit.

"A car traveling eastbound in the slow lane went to pass a car, and he went into the left lane," said Tom Johnson, ODOT transportation director. "He evidently didn't see our truck and struck the rear of our truck. We constantly broadcast 'Ice and snow, take it slow' and 'Slow down, don't crowd the plow.' People need to be aware that we're out there. We're just trying to do our job and if they'll cooperate with us, it'll be better off for everybody."

The Ohio State Highway Patrol has charged that driver with failing to maintain an assured clear distance.

Officials at the ODOT garage in Morristown said they've been "going full-bore" since 1:30 a.m. Monday.

They say crews normally scheduled in at 4 a.m. have been starting earlier -- at midnight -- and crews scheduled to go home at 8 p.m.have been held over until midnight.

At ODOT, they say they may have a very brief break in the action.

But they will be gearing up for the next winter storm predicted to hit Thursday and Friday.

In Johnson's words, "We've done all we can to cover the bases; the rest is up to Mother Nature."
