The warm temperatures we've had this fall have delayed the start of ski season.
The 2009-2010 season will start about a week later than normal since the mild temperatures have kept the snow-making machines off the slopes, officials said.
Snowshoe officials announced Nov. 30 that opening day now is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 5. The resort had planned to open Dec. 4.
Wisp is tentatively scheduled to open on Dec. 5, Timberline Dec. 10, and Canaan Valley and Winterplace Dec. 11.
The busiest time at any ski resort is the three weeks surrounding Christmas, said officials.
When the temperatures do finally drop, the snow-makers can generate a man made blizzard on the slopes, making 4,000 tons of snow per hour on each mountain, said officials.
