ELKINS -- Several Randolph County churches and organizations have joined forces to provide free lunches every week at the Common Grounds Cafe.

The Woodford Memorial United Methodist Church hosts the café every Saturday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m..

It serves soup and sandwiches at no cost. Customers can even take some home with them if they need to.

Organizers say people also come to socialize.

"The need for food is clear, but there are also people who come and eat and stay for the whole time. There are people who pretty obviously don't have a financial need for the food, but they want to stay and talk the whole time," said Robert McCutcheon, a chaplain at Davis & Elkins College who helped to organize the cafe.

This Saturday's café will feature Thanksgiving-style food.

McCutcheon says it gives each week's leftovers to the Randolph County Homeless Shelter and Women's Aid in Crisis.
