FAIRMONT  --  The Marion County Rescue Squad has received a big honor.

It was named "EMS Agency of the Year" for the state of West Virginia at the annual EMS conference this weekend.

The squad says it strives continually to improve patient care by upgrading its equipment and educating its staff.

Employees say it is a huge honor.

"It's especially meaningful to us. To be the best in the state at what you do and to be nominated and voted on by your peers is extremely gratifying to us. Anytime you're recognized as the best in your field it has to be an honor," said Rescue Squad Director Lloyd White.

The EMS conference was Thursday through Saturday in Flatwoods.
