WHEELING -- It happened on Short Creek Road in Ohio County, just past the intersection with GC&P Road.

The westbound semi-truck, reportedly hauling a load to the landfill, overturned on a sharp curve and landed on top of an eastbound Volkswagen.

Ohio County Sheriff's Deputies say the two men in the car were in their early 20s, and at least one was a West Liberty University student.

The accident occurred at approximately 12:45 p.m.

A West Liberty firefighter said it looked like the truck driver had difficulty with a turn.

"These back roads are pretty bad for people that don't know them," said Chad Manning, of the West Liberty VFD. "Judging from the marks behind us, he (the truck driver) slammed on his brakes as soon as he saw the car, but it (the truck) just rolled on top of the car. The truck driver seemed in a little worse condition than the kids."

Deputies said all three men were out of the vehicles and standing when they arrived on the scene, which one deputy described as "amazing."

He said three people were taken to area hospitals, and are all expected to recover completely.

Authorities predict there will be at least one traffic citation issued, perhaps two, when the case is fully investigated.

I'm surprised the driver of the VW hasn't been injured before. An fellow I know followed him going 51mph in a 25mph zone! That doesn't excuse the truck driver but excessive speed was a given on the part of the VW driver...................
