WHEELING -- A group in Warwood has formed a committee to build their "field of dreams."

The group of six men, the City of Wheeling, and an entire community are making tremendous changes to the Third Street Ballfield in Warwood.

The committee includes Mark Nardone, Mike Riedeld, Rodney Cooley, Doug Hlad, Eric Michaels and Mark Delbrugge.

Redbird President Mark Delbrugge said the group is working to make the field the premier one in the valley.

"We wanted to take it to the next level, other places have done it. We went and raised money and put in alot of man hours. Hopefully this dream will come true for alot of kids," said Delbrugge.

New bullpens have been built, a batting cage was moved and reconstructed, and a picnic pavilion has been added.

They are also adding lighting to the field that would extend playing time for teams and allow the Redbirds to host tournaments.

Redbird's board member Doug Hlad said they will work through the early winter to make this dream a reality.

"It's amazing how many people got involved on being part of the community and people coming down just picking up a garden hoe and giving us hand," said Hlad.

"Monetary donations, free services, and equipment have come in from Panhandle Cleaning, Sean O'Brien's rental equipment, Tunnel Ridge LLC, Mansuetto Roofing, Beckett's Landscaping, John Law Offices, and many, many others who just show up and pitch in or hand us a check," added Hlad.

To donate or help with the field call Mark at 304-215-5138 or visit their website at www.warwoodredbirds.com.
