MORGANTOWN -- The Friends of Deckers Creek and BOPARC in Monongalia County dedicated a new outdoor learning park Sunday afternoon.
The park is located behind Kroger in Sabraton between the rail trail and creek.
A group gathered to recognized the many volunteers and more than $40,000 worth of contributions from area businesses tp complete the FODC Outdoor Learning Center.
Morgantown's Mayor Bill Byrne spoke about the city's appreciation for all that Friends of Deckers Creek does for the community.
"We did the park for the community so they would have a space to come be by the creek, learn about Friends of Deckers Creek's mission and be inspired," Mary Luckini, Landscape Designer.
Near the park is a giant Metamorphosis butterfly mural that was painted on the back of Kroger.
The artwork is symbolic of turning the water with acid mine drainage back to fish-able and swim-able water. |
