BRIDGEPORT -- With warm temperatures and breezy conditions Saturday, several brush fires kept fire departments around North Central West Virginia busy.
At 2:19 p.m., fire departments from Bridgeport, Nutter Fort, Spelter, Shinnston, Anmoore and Mount Clare responded to a brush fire in a wooded area behind Grand Avenue in Bridgeport. The fire may have damaged up to five acres, firefighters said.
Crews attacked the fire from two different areas using chainsaws, rakes and water to bring it under control.
Officials say the fire spread very quickly.
There is no word on the exact cause of the fire.
The Division of Natural Resources has been called to help with the investigation.
Brush fires were also reported in Marion, Monongalia and Taylor Counties.
