Other high risk groups will be eligible for H1N1 vaccine, along with young children

HUNTINGTON -- The Cabell Huntington Health Department is hosting an H1N1 clinic on Thursday and now it will be open to more than just children.

Health officials are hosting the clinic at Fellowship Baptist Church on Route 60 in Barboursville.

It will be from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m.

This clinic is for people ages 6 months to 24 years of age. Also, high risk people, including pregnant women, people who live with or care for children under 6 months.

Adults 24 to 64 years old with chronic health conditions and health care workers who provide direct patient care with acutely ill patients will also be able to be vaccinated.

I am a high risk person cancer heart and diabetes. I also work with children on a daily basis as I am a Teacher at Barboursville Middle School.. I have had numerous students out with swine flu and other visuses. However I am denied a H1N1 flu shot because I am 68 years old. I consider that to be a major form of age discrimination. According to California Health Dept research 19% of adults over the age of 50 die from H1N1. Why is it assumed that people over the age of 64 are "magically" protected or do not deserve protection. Is it a way to eliminate the over 64 population?

I am speaking out for all of us over 64 who appear to be invisible to the powers that be where equal treatment for health issues are concerned. No wonder this nation doesn't have a national health program. Peoplle over 64 deserve the H1N1 shot. Under this criteria even those who abuse drugs, have criminal records and are not contributing to society can get the shot. Think about that.
