Update: Virginia Voters Head to Polls to Elect New Governor

In Tazewell County, the Board of Supervisors and Board of Education races have been finalized.

TAZEWELL, Va. -- The polls have closed in Virginia. Voters statewide picked a Republican cast to fill the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General seats.

In Tazewell County, voters also cast ballots for two Virginia General Assembly seats, three seats on the Tazewell Board of Supervisors and two county school board posts.

Republican Robert McDonnell beat Democrat Creigh Deeds for the governorship.

For Lieutenant Governor, William Bolling, a Republican, received more votes than Democrat Jody Wagner.

In the Attorney General's race, Ken Cuccinelli, a Republican received more votes that opponent Stephen Shannon.

Voters in Tazewell County will chose a new representative for the 3rd District seat in the General Assembly. Incumbent Dan Bowling, D-Tazewell, lost to James Morefield, R-Tazewell. The 3rd District represents Buchanan, Russell and Tazewell counties.

Voters in Tazewell also voted on the 6th District General Assembly race. Incumbent Anne Crockett-Stark, R-Wythe, received more votes than Carole Pratt, D-Pulaski. The 6th District represents Bland, Giles, Pulaski, Tazewell and Wythe counties.

Three seats were for election on the Tazewell Board of Supervisors. Republican John Absher won the Western District, Democrat Mike Hymes will represent the Southern District of Tazewell County, and James Campbell, Jr., a Republican, won in the Northern district.

The incumbants for the two opens seats on the Tazewell County School Board will remain on the job. Steve Davis will continue to represent the Western District and Randy Conn keeps the seat in the Southern District.
