BECKLEY -- Fire investigators, marshals, and private industry workers are gathering in Beckley this week for an annual conference.
Among other things the group will discuss legal issues and investigating a crime scene. They are also getting up to date on guidelines. On Tuesday, Nov. 3 they will continue the seminar to talk about usage of technology on the scene.
West Virginia State Fire Marshal Sterling Lewis said conferences like these are important to keep fire fighters on their toes. Sometimes unexpected things happen, like the recent surge in fire fighters charged with arson. In the past 18 months, 32 fire fighters have been charged.
“It’s sort of like you don’t look at a police officer to rob a bank,” said Lewis. “You just don’t look at these folks, but things are turning around and new light has shown that we need to keep those folks as a prime suspect also.”
