CHARLESTON -- Gov. Joe Manchin announced Monday he would be taking a higher profile in the battle against the H1N1 flu virus.
Manchin joined West Virginia's Chief Health Officer, Dr. Cathy Slemp, for a Monday morning news conference to update the media and the public about the spread of the disease in the Mountain State.
The governor told reporters the state is doing everything it can do to fight the flu. Manchin said information is now available on a new website, www.wvflu.org.
"Truly good information is what it takes," he said. "Starting with just washing your hands as frequently as possible. If you are sick, don't go to school or don't go to work so you don't have a chance of spreading that."
Slemp said the biggest challenge now is getting enough vaccine for those who need it. But, she said the number of available doses is expected to increase in November, December and January.
