MORGANTOWN -- For the 22nd year, teams from schools in West Virginia and Pennsylvania tried to protect their pumpkins from a splattered demise.
One team stuffed an inflatable raft inside a box, another used a teddy bear to soften the impact of the 11-story fall. Teams used parachutes to slow the descent and help guide the pumpkin to a large target in the fall zone.
The team from Connellsville Senior High School in Pennsylvania won the $50 grand prize.
Its pumpkin survived an 11-story drop from the top of the Engineering Sciences Building, and the closest to the intended target.
The proceeds benefitted the Ronald McDonald House.
