ROMNEY -- Story by Marla Pisciotta
Officials at the CVS Corporation office in Whoonsocket, R.I., said a new CVS pharmacy in Romney should be completed by early 2010.
The new store is being built on the site of a storm-water pond in front of the Hampshire Wellness Center in the Sunrise Summit area.
The land was purchased from the Hampshire County Development Authority for $250,000.
Plans include construction a huge underground concrete vault to handle water run-off.
"When completed the new building will cover 12,000 square feet," said Mike DeAngelis, a CVS spokesman.
"Our intention is to be in an area more convenient for the Romney community," said DeAngelis.
"We will be able to offer additional products and services including a drive-through window."
According to DeAngelis, a larger selection of merchandise is planned for the new facility.
Plans of the new CVS pharmacy show the size to be approximately 95 feet by 142 feet.
More than 60 parking spaces will surround the building.
DeAngelis said all current store employees at the existing CVS would be transferred to the new store.
"More will be hired as necessary," said DeAngelis.
CVS has 6,800 stores nationwide.
