MOUNT OLIVE -- Two prisoners escaped from Mount Olive Correctional Complex in Mount Olive in Fayette County, and are believed to be heading to their hometowns.
William Oakey Cline, 25, of Pineville and Kenneth Ray Hager, 30, from Boone County, escaped from the Slayton Work Camp, which is at Mount Olive.
According to West Virginia State Police, escapees usually turn up in areas they are familiar with. So far, there is no evidence the men have contacted their families but police believe it’s a matter of time.
Escape warrants have been obtained and the men have been entered in to the National Crime Information Center.
Cline was in prison for a daytime burglary conviction. Hager was serving time for breaking and entering and grand larceny.
While the men were being held for nonviolent crimes, troopers believe their escape makes them more dangerous.
“It always makes them more dangerous, they're members of the corrections system right now. To me if they're out and about they're dangerous,” said C.H. Mitchell, with the State Police.
Authorities in the men's hometowns have been alerted to be on the lookout. So far, there have been no reported sightings.
