 Watch Story Video
Mining debate requires facts, not rhetoric.

We’ve had some interesting reaction to last weekend’s Decision Makers when we took a helicopter tour over parts of Southern West Virginia to get a birdeye’s view of Mountaintop Mining.

A viewer from Kentucky wrote in to say “We are letting greed destroy one of the most beautiful and biologically unique areas in the world.”

Another viewer said we did a great service by showing that responsible coal mining is great for our state and country.

I personally think the video speaks for itself, and I implore everyone who cares about West Virginia to go to state journal.com and watch it for yourself.

No matter where you stand on this issue, I would hope you would be willing to put aside the rhetoric and listen to the facts.

In my opinion, those facts will tell you that responsible, well done surface mining is good for West Virginia and good for America.

I am in my senior years and have seen a lot of deep mining in the Ohio valley over the years. As a matter of fact it provided me with work in a non mining related field over the years.I watched the show and thought it was a fair and balanced depiction of what is really going on in mining in West Virginia. I know many disagree with this but we must take what we have and use it to the benifit of all our resident and we must continue to do it in a responsable manner.

A holler is what the greedy coal industry is filling in with coalmine waste. It is where we live. Mountains don' t grow back. I don't care what useless buildings the coal minions put on these wastelands- strip mining is a sin. OK- just the facts- The science of the Environmental Impact Statement states that there is little proof that there is any success to get native species to grow back or stream life to return on these sites. Get on the ground and look at them- where is the Ginseng- goldenseal- or bloodroot. What is on the other 95% of the permit that they didn't show you? Even if you could get it to grow back- which you can't- it does not dismiss the blasting of our homes, the water pollution, air pollution and the flood zones that is left. Shame on WOWK and Bray for using their pro-coal agenda in this station. Most of the media is owned and influenced by coal and greed. The feds should come in and take over this whole state- from the dog catcher to the Governor. America is getting it's eyes full of the way coal owns and corrupts this state.

You have stated your opinion and are expecting us to accept that as fact.

Fact: Mountain-top removal destroys at least one mountain and two streams. They don't grow back genius.

I COMMEND WOWK for the stand they are taking on the support of mountain-top & surface mining. You can bet I'm your new best fan!!! I think all that support coal should support your station & activities. Rest assured I will!!!! THANKS AGAIN
