HINTON -- Hinton was packed with train enthusiasts, and locals alike on Sunday.

Hundreds showed up for the cities annual “Railroad Days,” a two-weekend stretch where they celebrate the town’s unique history.

“We’re trying to preserve history of the fact that we were, and still are, a railroad town,” Summers County Visitor’s Center employee Dorothy Jean Boley said.

Hinton was once a prominent stop along both the Chesapeake and Ohio railways.

In a simpler time of steam engine locomotives, the sprawling town held a large terminal equipped with 16 turnstiles.

As technology has changed, and diesel locomotives became more prominent, the terminal has changed. However, Amtrak, as well as CSX, still make routine stops in Hinton.

If you missed out, you’re in luck. Railroad Days continues next weekend, both Saturday and Sunday. The street fair will continue with vendors, food, and of course a whole lot of entertainment from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.

You forgot to mention that the Collis P. Huntington Railroad Historical Society is bringing most of the life to the town with the New River Train.
