PHILIPPI  -- Homecoming at Alderson Broaddus College took on a special meaning this year for a local graduate.

Sgt. John C. Hoxie, a Philippi native and 2005 graduate, was honored with a special award at the school's alumni banquet.

Hoxie was wounded in Iraq in 2007.

He is a multiple amputee currently at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.

He is a Bronze Star and Purple Heart recipient.

Hoxie says he hopes to be released from the medical center next Spring, and is determined to rejoin his unit the 82nd Airborne at Fort Bragg.

Hoxie also served as the homecoming parade marshal.
