More money is coming for coal highways in southern West Virginia.
WASHINGTON D.C. -- Senator Robert C. Byrd announced Friday that the new Transportation, Housing and Urban Development bill will include millions for roads in the mountain state.
In our area, the Coal Fields Expressway and the King Coal Highway will each receive $2-million.
The funding will extend the Coal Fields Expressway from Allen Creek to Slab Fork.
When the road is complete it will run from Beckley to Pound, Virginia through Wyoming and McDowell counties.
The federal funds for the King Coal Highway will go towards completing a Route 460 interchange in Mercer County.
The King Coal Expressway will connect Bluefield and Mingo County when it's complete.
