Fatal Accident in Pike County

One person killed after dirt bike strikes two vehicles.

PIKEVILLE, Ky. -- One man is dead following an accident in Pike County, Ky. Wednesday night.

According to Kentucky State Police, Stephen Balo, 23, was driving a dirt bike along State Route 460 at Draffin around 8:30 p.m. when he hit a Chevy Baretta, and then collided with a Pontiac van.

Eric Hatfield, 22, of Elkhorn City, who was a passenger on the dirt bike, was declared dead at the scene by the Pike County Coroner. Balo was airlifted to Johnson City Memorial Hospital.

Two passengers in the van were treated and released after receiving minor injuries. The driver of the Baretta was not injured.

Both "men" were teenagers. Stephen 17. Eric, I believe was 13.

My condolences to their families and everyone involved.
