Fatal Crash Investigated in Gallia County

First fatal accident in county of 2009

GALLIPOLIS -- The Ohio State Highway Patrol is currently investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred on September 1.

The one vehicle crash occurred on State Route 7 in Gallia County around 2:50 p.m.

Rachel Kristin Smith, 27, of Middleport, Ohio, was transported to Holzer Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

Troopers said Smith's motorcycle was traveling southbound on State Route 7 when she drove off of the right side of the roadway and lost control. Smith was ejected from the motorcycle.

The crash remains under investigation

This is the first rural traffic fatality in Gallia County in 2009.
