Suspect is behind bars.
CHARLESTON -- A Raleigh County man is behind bars in Kanawha County after police arrested him on methamphetamine-related charges.
Johnie Wesley Mason IV, 36, of Beckley was stopped in Jefferson on Avesta Drive on because he had improper registration on his Chevrolet truck, according to a release from the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department.
"While talking w with Mason, Cpl. P.J. Lively could smell a strong chemical odor inside the cab. Further investigation revealed Mason’s driver’s license was revoked for DUI and there was no Insurance on the truck," the release said. "A green plastic tote was inside the truck. Mason admitted the tote contained a small meth lab. Deputies then discovered meth in various stages of the cooking process along with all the necessary components."
Also inside the truck were several vehicle registration plates, one of which was stolen in June of this year, the release said.
Mason was arrested and charged with operating a clandestine lab, driving on revoked for DUI, transferring and receiving stolen property, improper registration and no insurance.
He was arraigned and transported to the South Central Regional Jail.
