Beckley -- A group of people against Cap and Trade is organizing a rally to put a stop to the bill when it hits the Senate floor. The newly formed group is known as Southern West Virginians for Coal. Members organized a press conference Monday morning in Beckley. Their goal was to recruit new members and start what they're calling an aggressive public awareness campaign "cap and trade" is. Southern West Virginians for coal say the passage of this bill by the senate would be devastating for West Virginia's economy.
"It's going to put a carbon tax on the most, our only state, our main state resource, which is coal. It's going to cause a loss of jobs, increase in costs, it's going to be very, very harmful effect to West Virginia," said spokesman Tim Boothe.
The Save Coal: Say No to Cape and Trade Rally will be held on July 18th at the Raleigh County Convention Center. The rally is also sponsored by the West Virginia Conservative Foundation.
