WESTON -- The Mountaineer Military Museum hosted a special gathering, Saturday, with many veterans organizations in Weston. It was the first ever "Vet-Together" at the Mountaineer Military Museum.
The day was used as a way to recruit new member to the organizations, and to get more people into the museum.
Museum owner Barbara McVaney said when she was asked to host the event, she jumped at the chance.
"It just been wonderful. There's plenty of room for people to just be and chat. It's been a great morning."
The Hall of Heroes at the museum is one of the main attractions. The walls are lined with pictures of soldiers, who served in many different wars from all over the state. Some of those soldiers even came out for the "Vet-Together".
"They asked me some time ago for my picture," said veteran Dwight Center. "I was able to see it on the wall there. I was honored."
The McVaney's started the museum on their own and use grants to help with the funding. Veterans say they appreciate the couple.
"What a wonderful job the McVaney's have done with this museum," says Center. "It is just awesome as far as I'm concerned."
"They are unique. They are a credit to our community, and I"m proud to say that they're my friend," added Fultineer.
The museum has now started its summer hours and will be open Friday and Saturday from 10:00 a.m to 4:00 p.m., or by appointment. For an appointment, you can call the McVaney's at (304) 472-3943.
