WEST UNION -- Doddridge County residents have been fighting for better service from Verizon for more than a year.
"Verizon is a faceless, nameless, behemoth around here," says resident Fran Stewart. "They give the impression that they don't care."
Verizon officials attended Thursday evening's economic development meeting to answer some of the big questions residents had about the county's service. John Golden, for Verizon's External Affairs office, says that the upgrades to the system will take some work but will be a big help for internet service in the county.
But the Internet hasn't been the main concern for residents. Stewart says that her phone goes out during rainstorms, and sometimes stays out for days.
"We can't go a week, 2 weeks, without being able to call 911," she says.
Verizon officials say phone service will also get better with the upgrades to the Internet. Stewart says that the update from Verizon was helpful, but she has concerns.
"We'll see, but, I do feel better," she says.
