As graphic designer in the production department, Smith is responsible for advertisement design and pre-press activities. She also creates framed reprints of stories appearing in The State Journal. She joined the staff in January 2000.
Smith is a native of Charleston and a graduate of Marshall University with a bachelor of science degree in criminal justice.
She started her newspaper career with The Lincoln Journal in Hamlin, where she worked seven years designing advertisements and sales fliers. She then went to The Putnam Post in Culloden, where she worked five years.
Smith lives in a restored (circa1830) log cabin in West Hamlin with her identical twin daughters, Rachel and Courtney.
